Precise for Storage Tiering Now Available Through EMC Select Program

New Business Storage Tiering Product Optimizes Transaction Performance and Storage Costs

REDWOOD SHORES, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 10/08/09 -- Precise today announced that EMC is reselling Precise for Storage Tiering(TM) through EMC® Select, a program which helps customers easily acquire components that comprise an information infrastructure. Through the EMC Select program, customers can purchase Precise for Storage Tiering from EMC and its authorized partners.

"Precise for Storage Tiering enables customers to optimize enterprise flash drive deployment for maximum business transaction throughput in EMC Symmetrix® and CLARiiON® storage environments," said Peter Conway, vice president of Symmetrix Business and Products Operations at EMC Corporation. "The exceptional performance of our enterprise flash drive solutions can now be accurately assigned to the service of specific critical businesses."

With Precise for Storage Tiering, customers can trace transaction performance problems from the end user down to the physical storage device. Precise for Storage Tiering determines transaction data assignment to the optimal storage tier according to business value, performance impact and cost considerations. The thorough monitoring of transaction data allows Precise to accurately predict the impact of storage tiering on transaction performance.

"According to our customers, 50 to 75 percent of business transaction response time is in the database and storage tiers," said Zohar Gilad, executive vice president, for Precise. "With Precise for Storage Tiering, customers can eliminate these performance bottlenecks and optimize their storage investments."

"Customers can now use Precise's detailed storage transaction data to identify specific application performance bottlenecks and determine where the fastest storage resources will have the biggest resolution impact," said Brian Babineau, senior analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group. "This insight enables customers to target EFD implementations where they provide the most compelling return on investment, or conversely, use more cost-effective storage options when business transaction performance requirements are lower."

Precise for Storage Tiering software is immediately available through the EMC Select program. For more information, visit www.emc.com/select.

When Enterprises started adopting Hadoop-based Big Data environments over the last ten years, they were mainly on-premise deployments. Organizations would spin up and manage large Hadoop clusters, where they would funnel exabytes or petabytes of unstructured data. However, over the last few years the economics of maintaining this enormous infrastructure compared with the elastic scalability of viable cloud options has changed this equation. The growth of cloud storage, cloud-managed big data e...
