Nokia Claims All Apple Products Infringe Its Patents

Nokia’s weighing its options on its first complaint while it waits for the ITC’s full ruling

An administrative law judge with the International Trade Commission (ITC) decided Friday that Apple's iPhone, iPod and Macs don't infringe five remaining Nokia patents.

The ITC now has to decide if it will adopt his position like it decided on Friday to review its judge's decision that Apple and RIM don't infringe Kodak's camera patents, reviving Kodak's hopes of collecting a possible billion dollars in royalties.

The ITC can't order that royalties be paid but its decision, expected in late May, could be used to strength a patent suit. Samsung and LG have already paid a struggling Kodak $964 million for infringing the same patents.

Meanwhile, a frustrated Nokia threw the book at Apple, telling the ITC Tuesday that Apple is infringing its patents in "virtually all of its products" and filed another complaint citing seven particular patents on multitasking operating systems, data synchronization, positioning, call quality and use of Bluetooth accessories. That means the new complaint embraces iPads, Macs, iPhones and iPods.

Nokia's VP of IP Paul Melin said the company is currently suing Apple for treading on 46 of its patents in courts in the US, Germany, England and the Netherlands, suggesting that something is eventually bound to stick.
