Rackspace Cloud2 Participant Touts Innovation in US

Sabina Jausovec Notes Company's Ongoing Cloud Computing Efforts

A committee of 71 Cloud technologists worked with TechAmerica, a Washington, DC-based industry association, to produce "Cloud2," a report that makes 14 specific recommendations to government IT buyers and to Members of Congress and the White House.

The committee was headed by Marc Benioff and Michael Capellas, and featured leading Cloud advocates from across the spectrum of the technology industry.

I've already argued that the report simultaneously doesn't go far enough yet can serve as a global model. I've also followed up with some of the committee members to get their takes as to next steps for their companies.

Sabina Jausovec, a legal specialist from Rackspace who served on the committee, recently responded to my inquiries about the report. Specifically, I asked her what she thought was most important among the key areas and recommendations the committee made.

She responded, "To advance cloud adoption in the United States and around the world, we feel the following recommendations are specifically important: Security & Assurance Frameworks; Responses to Data Breaches; Research; Transnational Data Flow Recommendations; and Education/Training.

"We believe addressing these areas will advance cloud adoption and help cloud users capitalize upon the power of cloud computing which will ultimately help the United States set the pace of innovation for cloud services."

I also wanted to know what next steps are being contemplated at Rackspace. She said, "Rackspace is very excited to be part of this important collaboration among industry, academia and the government, and help contribute to the discussion and recommendations.

"We believe the recommendations outlined by the Cloud2 Commission will provide a roadmap on how to overcome some of the obstacles for cloud computing providers when doing business globally, and provide for a more widespread cloud adoption by the government. Rackspace will continue working with the industry and academia to help materialize the recommendations outlined in the report."
