Java Open Source in Works?

Accommodation Strategy to be Announced at JavaOne

For all its open source palaver Sun hasn't been able to bring itself to open source Java, but it is talking about relaxing its license enough to make it easier to bundle the Java Runtime Environment with Linux and OpenSolaris so Linux machines can run Java apps. Usually the JRE is downloaded independently of any OS.

An announcement is supposedly in the works for JavaOne in mid-May. Separately, ISO has standardized the OpenDocument file format that Sun put in train, which could lead to its wider adoption.
