SAN DIEGO, CA and BERLIN -- (Marketwire) -- 01/09/13 -- LightPointe, a manufacturer of wireless broadband bridges used to connect buildings and towers in business and 4G telecom carrier networks, announced that the company's CEO and founder was recently honored by EE Times, which placed Dr. Heinz Willebrand on its list of "Forty Innovators Building the Foundation of the Next-Gen Electronics Industry." This prestigious list of technology leaders includes such individuals as Steven Wozniak, Apple co-founder, Paul Jacobs of Qualcomm, and Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, SolarCity and Tesla Motors.
"Heinz Willebrand epitomizes the innovative spirit of America's top inventors and it is a pleasure to work with him as he guides LightPointe Communications to new heights in the wireless communications industry," said Carl Berg, the lead investor in LightPointe whose previous investments have also included companies such as Amdahl, Sun Microsystems and Integrated Device Technologies. "Since the company's founding in 1998, Dr. Willebrand has led LightPointe's research and development efforts, achieving over ten U.S. and international patents in the area of fiber-optics, Free Space Optics, and wireless technologies and has authored and co-authored authoritative research papers and books. I'm especially proud of Dr. Willebrand's leadership of LightPointe as CEO the past few years, including broadening the company's product portfolio, enhancing customer relationships, and achieving revenue growth even during economically challenging times such as the approximately 30% increase in sales revenues for 2012."
"It is an honor to be acknowledged by such an organization and respected trade journal as EE-Times," said Dr. Heinz Willebrand, CEO of LightPointe. "The acknowledgement and inclusion in the Forty Innovators list was completely unexpected and I am very humbled to be included alongside the other technology innovators on the list, and also fully realize that this acknowledgement would not have been possible without the contributions of my colleagues at LightPointe. I look forward to continuing LightPointe's mission to enhance the wireless communications industry with ever-faster transmission and capacity, which is essential to society's hunger for mobile devices and ultra-fast point-to-point backhaul infrastructure which support such devices and computer networks. Though the core technology and products often receive the headlines, what's truly important is that all these communication enhancements are bringing people around the world closer together, providing businesses with new opportunities, enhancing security and safety, and enabling new forms of entertainment and social networking."
