GGA Introduces First Open-Source Solution to Process Entire SAS7BDAT Dataset

GGA Software Services, a provider of customized discovery informatics and software solutions since 1994, has announced the release of Parso – a full-featured, open-source software solution that solves the critical problem of extracting data from SAS7BDAT files. Until now, when trying to process these files, users were forced to use either high-cost licensed solutions or other tools that were restricted by file types or supported platforms. “Parso becomes the only solution that allows users to extract data from all formats of SAS7BDAT files, whether compressed (CHAR and BINARY) or uncompressed, created on any platform,” according to Richard Golob, President and CEO of GGA Software Services.

In today’s life sciences industry, many companies store clinical and statistical data in the proprietary SAS7BDAT format, making extracting data from these files a common processing issue for users. The number of types of SAS7BDAT files complicates the processing challenge, making Parso’s versatility even more valuable.

According to Golob, “Parso is lightweight requiring only JRE installation on the client computer.” It can perform row-by-row parsing and process data streams, eliminating the need to download and save the data files to the file system. With its easy-to-use interface similar to OpenCSV, users need only a few lines of program code to convert their SAS7BDAT file into a model or CSV format.

The tool is particularly effective handling difficult cases where files may be additionally complicated by data corruption. After processing, Parso provides easy file conversion into a model or CSV format.
