Snowbound Software Enhances Mobile Features for VirtualViewer HTML5

Latest Version Also Includes Text Extraction, Metadata, and Keyboard Shortcuts

WALTHAM, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/03/14 -- Snowbound Software, the market leader in web-based document viewing technology, today announced significant enhancements to its award-winning document viewer, VirtualViewer HTML5. VirtualViewer version 3.4 includes powerful new mobile capabilities, along with keyboard shortcuts, text extraction, and metadata functionality.

"This milestone release adds tremendous value to VirtualViewer;" said Jeff Kurson, product manager at Snowbound Software. "The new enhancements offer our customers more ways to streamline their workflow, while also providing our on-the-go clients with a truly mobile user experience."

VirtualViewer HTML5 version 3.4 satisfies customer demands for:

  • An enhanced mobile user experience: Users accessing the viewer on tablets and smartphones can now utilize touch-based interactions for adding and editing annotations, as well as momentum-based scrolling to navigate through pages. The mobile version of the viewer also features a clearer and sharper user interface with bigger buttons that allow for easier touch navigation.
  • Text extraction capabilities: Users can easily copy and extract text from searchable documents by dragging over the desired text, copying to the clipboard, and then pasting safely and securely elsewhere.
  • Metadata functionality: The enhanced viewer displays a customizable list of document and page properties -- for example, Document Size (Bytes), Page Count or Document Format.
  • Keyboard shortcuts: With the new capabilities, users can employ simple keyboard shortcuts for many of VirtualViewer's features (zoom, rotate, print, scroll, etc.), saving significant time.

"We're incredibly excited to bring our new mobile-enhanced VirtualViewer to our customers," said Simon Wieczner, president and CEO of Snowbound Software. "We have listened to their requests and worked hard to provide a solution that will increase their productivity and capability with both tablets and smartphones."

Snowbound's VirtualViewer HTML5 document viewer is a document viewing solution enabling file retrieval through a universal web application. It does not require any client-side installation or plug-ins such as Flash, Adobe, or Office. VirtualViewer HTML5 works with any standard browser, provides on-the-go mobile viewing for iPad, Android and other tablet and smartphone platforms, and delivers flexible cross-platform support. It is available immediately for Java and will be available for .NET (x32 or x64) and other connectors (ICN, Filenet P8, and Alfresco) by April 14.

Fifty billion connected devices and still no winning protocols standards. HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, and CoAP seem to be leading in the IoT protocol race at the moment but many more protocols are getting introduced on a regular basis. Each protocol has its pros and cons depending on the nature of the communications. Does there really need to be only one protocol to rule them all? Of course not. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Chris Matthieu, co-founder and CTO of Octoblu, walk you through how Oct...
Major trends and emerging technologies – from virtual reality and IoT, to Big Data and algorithms – are helping organizations innovate in the digital era. However, to create real business value, IT must think beyond the ‘what’ of digital transformation to the ‘how’ to harness emerging trends, innovation and disruption. Architecture is the key that underpins and ties all these efforts together. In the digital age, it’s important to invest in architecture, extend the enterprise footprint to the cl...
Almost everyone sees the potential of Internet of Things but how can businesses truly unlock that potential. The key will be in the ability to discover business insight in the midst of an ocean of Big Data generated from billions of embedded devices via Systems of Discover. Businesses will also need to ensure that they can sustain that insight by leveraging the cloud for global reach, scale and elasticity.
A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights.
One of biggest questions about Big Data is “How do we harness all that information for business use quickly and effectively?” Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or spatial technology is about more than making maps, but adding critical context and meaning to data of all types, coming from all different channels – even sensors. In his session at @ThingsExpo, William (Bill) Meehan, director of utility solutions for Esri, will take a closer look at the current state of spatial technology and ar...
Explosive growth in connected devices. Enormous amounts of data for collection and analysis. Critical use of data for split-second decision making and actionable information. All three are factors in making the Internet of Things a reality. Yet, any one factor would have an IT organization pondering its infrastructure strategy. How should your organization enhance its IT framework to enable an Internet of Things implementation? In his session at @ThingsExpo, James Kirkland, Red Hat's Chief Arch...
