CareerBliss, a career community™ with more than three million available jobs, hundreds of thousands of job reviews and millions of salaries, today released new data for the CareerBliss Happiest Jobs for the Class of 2014. CareerBliss analyzed more than 25,000 independent company reviews to determine which jobs are giving young professionals the most career-related happiness. CareerBliss data finds that overwhelmingly, jobs associated with the STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) continue to set the bar for happiness, especially those in software development. After analyzing job data for years, CareerBliss co-founder Heidi Golledge is a big believer in STEM education as well as its cousin, STEAM, which includes Art along with STEM to give students a well-rounded education as well as happier and more fulfilling career choices. Ranking first on the 2014 list are java developers, programmers who use a specific language associated with client-server web applications. Following java developers are embedded software engineers, who help program the embedded software in the electronics and other devices. In third place are young professionals who specialize in .NET development, a programming language specific to Microsoft.

“At CareerBliss, our focus is to study why folks are happy at work to help make others even happier in their careers and assist companies in making great cultures. If we can help the Class of 2014 to understand which careers their peers derive the most happiness, we can assist them in choosing their best career path,” says Heidi Golledge, co-founder and Chief Happiness Officer of CareerBliss. “By providing new graduates with this data at the onset, we are confident they will be able to make the best decisions in carving their career path to happiness.”

In addition to burgeoning STEM-related fields, CareerBliss finds a high level of happiness for jobs in the biomedical and pharmaceutical space, as indicated by medical technologist’s ranking at No. 4. Furthermore, BlissScores reveal that the key to happiness among many of the happiest jobs for this group reside in such metrics as “Work Setting”, “Support You Get” and “Growth Opportunities”.

As a whole, jobs in the technology sector dominated the CareerBliss Happiest Jobs for the Class of 2014.

“Technology is constantly morphing leaving a great deal of opportunities for new and rising talent,” says Golledge.

Methodology:

CareerBliss data evaluates the key factors that affect work happiness including: the person one works for, the people one works with, the support and rewards one receives, the growth opportunities available to a person, the company culture and the way one works and handles their daily tasks. For the purpose of this data CareerBliss analyzed more than 25,000 independent company reviews from January 2011 to March 2014. All reviews are submitted by people who visit CareerBliss.com.
