OneLab Portal Opens in Europe for Internet of Things Work (IoT)

EC Backs the Effort that Makes Multiple Testbeds Available

Something called the OneLab portal has just opened in Europe for IoT developers. It provides access to testbeds from the FIT/IoTLab, NITOS, and PlanetLab Europe.

The OneLab portal is open for people who wish to access these resources for "experimentally-driven research," and is open to all. I was able to open an account with OneLab quickly, as well as with the FIT (Future of Internet Things) IoTLab, with access to four different servers located throughout France.

New testbeds are scheduled to be brought online in the coming months.

This news comes from the European Future Internet Portal, which describes itself as "the central forum for European activities and discussions on the future of the Internet.

Its goal is "to help consolidate Europe's efforts in shaping the Internet of the future," is hosted and edited by Eurescom, and supported by the European Commission under the auspices of a specific framework and program.

"Future Internet" seems to mean, in essence, the Internet of Things, and there is a lot of IoT work being conducted within these testbeds. There should be a lot of great stuff coming out of this project, as it seems to be bringing together IoT research from universities and business with no grand distinctions between them. I heard about it from Council, a marvelous IoT organization based in Brussels.

I wonder if there ever will be something like this in the US? Should there be?
