The SMT Software Market Poised to Capitalize on Potential Opportunities

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Complete integration and ease of communication down the surface mount technologies (SMT) line have driven the growth of the software market. Additionally, the dynamic and competitive electronics industry is creating a relentless drive to innovate, cut costs, and assure unfailing quality and faster time to market. Customers are now also more concerned with pricing and quality of the machine and not with the software that accompanies it. These combined factors boost demand for the SMT software markets.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (http://www.frost.com/), World SMT Software Markets, reveals that the market earned revenues of $312.4 million in 2006 and estimates this to reach $558.3 million in 2013.

If you are interested in a virtual brochure, which provides manufacturers, end users, and other industry participants with an overview of the global SMT software markets, then send an e-mail to Tori Foster, Corporate Communications, at [email protected] with your full name, company name, title, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address. Upon receipt of the above information, an overview will be sent to you by e-mail.

"The SMT software market has been rejuvenated not only due to increase in equipment sales but also due to increasing automation and technology of the software itself," says Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Lavanya Ram Mohan. "As the demands for increased integration, communication, quality and factory level optimization rise, these markets are likely to accrue significant revenues in future, moreover, the perception of the industry in general towards SMT software has also undergone a tremendous transformation."

Increasing demand for miniaturization of components and compact products has favored the growth of the software market. The demand for quality, throughput, accuracy, and integration has witnessed a new surge of demand owing to the need to reduce repair and rework down the line. This has elevated the technology and investment for software. As manufacturing processes undergo a revamping facelift resulting in leaner, faster and optimized production lines, the demand for SMT software is likely to grow stronger.

However, the hardware platforms of the machines vary, and are not equipped to handle the latest versions of the software. From the customer's perspective, their legacy systems lack the requisite provisions to upgrade along with the new-fangled software. Some machines still run using binary and basic XML structure. Hence, there are hardware limitations, which prevent the integration of new software into existing machines. Creating hardware platforms, which will operate seamlessly with newly integrated software, is an issue for manufacturers.

"The inability to integrate new software into legacy machines still remains the main bone of contention for SMT software providers," explains Ram Mohan. "While the software prescribed can efficiently meet the industry demands, most customers prefer to update them on their existing machines as opposed to buying the new equipment with the latest software."

The previously existing SMT machines within the market are getting obsolete. As a result, the cost of ownership becomes high for customers. This will induce increasing purchase of new equipment that has the capability to integrate with the latest software upgrades. Alternatively, manufacturers will need to display proactive strategies to be able to anticipate future needs of the industry and create hardware platforms that have the capability to integrate the latest technology to the maximum extent possible.

The World SMT Software Markets is part of the Surface Mount Technologies Growth Partnership Service, and it provides a comprehensive insight into the growth opportunities for SMT software markets. The study provides regional revenue forecasts for the total SMT software market. The study also includes segment analysis of placement, inspection, and other SMT software market including soldering, screen printers, glue dispenser, rework and repair software markets. The challenges of aggregating data from consumer-oriented devices, such as wearable technologies and smart thermostats, are fairly well-understood. However, there are a new set of challenges for IoT devices that generate megabytes or gigabytes of data per second. Certainly, the infrastructure will have to change, as those volumes of data will likely overwhelm the available bandwidth for aggregating the data into a central repository. Ochandarena discusses a whole new way to think about your next...
Cell networks have the advantage of long-range communications, reaching an estimated 90% of the world. But cell networks such as 2G, 3G and LTE consume lots of power and were designed for connecting people. They are not optimized for low- or battery-powered devices or for IoT applications with infrequently transmitted data. Cell IoT modules that support narrow-band IoT and 4G cell networks will enable cell connectivity, device management, and app enablement for low-power wide-area network IoT. B...

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things'). When we are looking at the world of IoT, we should take a step back, look at the big picture. What value are these devices providing. IoT is not about the devices, its about the data consumed and generated. The devices are tools, mechanisms, conduits. This paper discusses the considerations when dealing with the...
