Security Software Pioneer Barry Schrager Joins Vanguard Integrity Professionals as Chief Security Architect

ACF2 Creator Brings More Than Three Decades of Enterprise Security Vision and Leadership

LAS VEGAS, May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanguard Integrity Professionals, the leader in enterprise security solutions, today announced that computer security pioneer, Barry Schrager, has joined the company as chief security architect. Schrager, an expert at securing large complex computing environments and designing next generation security architectures, brings more than three decades of IT security expertise to Vanguard's management team. In his newly created role, Schrager will be responsible for the design and strategic direction of Vanguard's new line of enterprise security applications, which are uniquely architected to manage the entire enterprise as a single secure domain.

"Vanguard has a great vision and approach to solving most of the enterprise security problems that exist today and I look forward to being part of a team that makes this happen," said Schrager. "I made the move to Vanguard because of its outstanding development team, market leading technologies, and large and loyal name brand customer base." Schrager began his career in 1968 at the University of Illinois where he developed a system that authenticated users and secured data on IBM mainframe systems, which at the time had almost no security. In 1972, SHARE, one of the oldest computer user groups created for IBM mainframe users, requested that Schrager undertake a project to define the security elements and requirements for future IBM operating systems.

In 1978, Schrager formed SKK Inc. to develop a security software product that would meet all of the requirements of the SHARE project and establish the first standards for mainframe security. That product, ACF2, was the world's first commercially successful mainframe security system. Under Schrager's leadership, SKK also developed the first security product for the IBM VM operating system, ACF2/VM, and the first operating system auditing product, Examine/MVS. In 1986, with 2,700 customers and more than 60 percent market share, SKK was sold to UCCEL. Shortly thereafter, UCCEL was acquired by Computer Associates, which markets the SKK products today under the names CA-ACF2, CA-ACF2/VM and CA-Examine.

For the last twenty years, Schrager has worked with a number of security software companies building advanced security systems. Most recently, Schrager was vice president of product development for Deadbolt at JME Software where he led the design and development of the company's new line of mainframe access control products.

"Barry is a true computer security legend and an outstanding addition to the Vanguard team. His decades of experience and knowledge will be invaluable as we work together to solve today's pressing enterprise security problems," said Ronn Bailey, Vanguard's founder, CEO and CTO. "Like Barry, Vanguard is also a computer security pioneer with a long history of developing and bringing to market new security technologies that have literally changed the world. Stay tuned as we are about to do it again."

The news of Schrager's appointment was previewed last week at The Federation of Security Professionals conference in Toronto.
