Open Source Project Management: OpenProj Takes Off Fast

25,000 copies have been downloaded in the first week since launching

The inflection point has been reached in the adoption of open source software and Projity is working closely with the industry leaders in accelerating this trend,l” said Marc O’Brien, CEO, Projity, as he announced today that over 25,000 copies of OpenProj - a free, open source replacement of Microsoft Project and other commercial project management software solutions - have been downloaded in the first week since launching.

OpenProj offers an alternative for the 28 million users of Microsoft Project and anyone trying to manage projects. OpenProj is a free program that saves users the $1,000 license fee for Microsoft Project and is available on Linux, Unix, Mac or Windows.

“The Projity team is pleased with the rapid adoption of OpenProj as a standard in the project marketplace with more than 3,000 new users every day adopting OpenProj,” O’Brien continued. “It is particularly satisfying for our team to see the reception around the world for both OpenProj and Project-ON-Demand.

OpenProj is already the #5 application out of the 160,000 solutions tracked by Sourceforge.

"We are very excited by the OpenProj software: it clearly fills a gap and we are glad there is now a robust and complete solution for project management from the open source community. We look forward to incorporate it in our distro and make it available to our users," said Francois Bancilhon, CEO Mandriva.

Projity's solutions are being used to manage projects in over 115 countries around the world, added O'Brien. Projity is based in Silicon Valley and France with offices in San Mateo (pictured), Paris and India.
