From AIR to ZK, this is an alphabetical round-up of the fast moving-world of application development tools and frameworks spawned ever since the appearance of Google Maps, the canonical early RIA. Adobe AIR - cross-operating system runtime that lets developers use their existing web development skills in HTML, AJAX, Flash and Flex to build and deploy rich Internet applications to the desktop (http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/air/).

Google Web Toolkit (GWT) - an open source Java software development framework that makes writing AJAX applications like Google Maps and Gmail easy for developers who don't speak browser quirks as a second language (http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/).
Grails - an open-source web application framework that leverages the Groovy language and complements Java Web development (http://grails.org/).
