Xsigo Systems announced the management integration of the
Xsigo VP780 I/O Director with VMware Infrastructure 3, the virtual
infrastructure software suite. The solution is available immediately as a
plug-in for VMware VirtualCenter 2.5, the central management console for VMware
Infrastructure environments, allowing users to manage VMware virtual machines
and virtual I/O resources from a single console. The combined solution enables
virtual machine I/O performance optimization, accelerates failover and reduces
I/O hardware requirements.
Data centers that use the integrated virtual I/O solution can quickly deploy
and configure virtual machine I/O resources and eliminate I/O bottlenecks that
can degrade virtual machine performance. Additionally, they achieve greater I/O
mobility to accelerate failover and disaster recovery management. The solution
also reduces server I/O card requirements by up to 70%, allowing users to deploy
less expensive 1U high servers rather than larger 4U high devices.

virtualize our environments entirely, from the servers, storage, and the I/O,
will deliver tremendous savings in both time and capital costs,” said Sean
Kaye, Managing Director of Infoplex. “With the Xsigo I/O Director, which
leverages VMware virtualization software, we can get to market sooner and start
generating revenue and creating new business opportunities.”
The Xsigo I/O Director virtualizes I/O to simplify management and reduce
infrastructure requirements, which helps IT managers deploy VMware software
faster, on more servers, and across more applications.

completes the virtualization ecosystem.”

Predictable I/O Performance:
Performance management of individual virtual machines is enhanced with Xsigo’s quality of service features that deliver guaranteed I/O bandwidth to specific VMs and maintains consistent performance management. The result is greater performance control for mission critical applications.
Enhanced Failover and Disaster Recovery:
Xsigo virtual I/O provides enhanced options for server failover and disaster recovery, simplifying and accelerating failover management by allowing I/O to be transparently migrated among devices.
Compact, Cost-Effective Deployments:
Xsigo reduces server cards and cables by 70%, allowing the broader deployment of compact 1U high servers. Compared with large 4U high servers required for many I/O-intensive implementations, 1U high devices consume 75% less rack space and cost thousands of dollars less to buy.
