AccuRev and Rally Software Partner to Scale Agile Software Development Best Practices

Combined Solution Will Improve Visibility, Task-based Development and Requirements Traceability for Agile Teams

AccuRev and Rally announced a technology partnership that will integrate AccuRev software change and configuration management (SCCM) with Rally's Agile lifecycle management solutions. The combined solution will provide a platform to manage multiple Agile processes and ongoing customer feedback, while improving visibility and requirements traceability between defects, issues and tasks and the actual source code changes made to address them.

The results from Agile software delivery teams are clear: faster delivery of quality software, improved project visibility, and better alignment between business and IT organizations. But the ongoing challenge for many companies is taking early success – often at a team or division level – and scaling the success broadly across their companies. Impediments to success often include teams building the right skills and using the right tools to deliver results. Through this partnership, Rally and AccuRev will offer a solution for complete traceability across the Agile enterprise.

According to a recent Gartner research note titled "Agile Success Factors" from May 2007, "Agile development methods are gaining favor as an alternative to the plan-driven prescriptive methods traditionally used in application development. The move from waterfall to methods such as scrum, extreme programming and lean has brought flexibility and decreased delivery cycle time to many organizations." This note also alerts readers that Agile software development is not without risk, and teams need to understand the challenges associated with deploying a new process.

Paul Vienneau, director, software development at NaviMedix, said, "As a customer of AccuRev and Rally, NaviMedix is pleased that they are joining forces to offer seamless traceability across the entire Agile development lifecycle. In today's world of increasing audit and regulatory compliance, the importance of tracking project artifacts such as tasks and issues to the backing source control repository cannot be overstated. Together, AccuRev and Rally provide an optimal framework for Agile development teams."

Cliff Utstein, AccuRev vice president, business development, said, "A significant percentage of AccuRev's nearly 500 customers have begun adopting Agile development practices. This partnership and product integration with Rally further demonstrates our commitment to the leadership position as the Agile SCM vendor. Rally and AccuRev have a number of joint customers who are already seeing value in this product integration."
