PolyServe Software Integrated Into Clustered Enterprise File Services Solution From HP

BEAVERTON, Ore., May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- PolyServe, Inc. today announced the PolyServe File Serving Solution will be bundled and sold as part of the new HP Enterprise File Services Clustered Gateway.

Under an OEM agreement the companies have signed, PolyServe's advanced cluster file system and storage virtualization software will be integrated into the HP Enterprise File Services Clustered Gateway. The HP solution leapfrogs traditional Network Attached Storage (NAS) providers' wares by offering customers dramatically better price, performance and availability based on industry-standard computing devices.

"The monolithic NAS appliance is yesterday's news. By adopting PolyServe's open and modular approach to delivering performance and availability, HP is changing the game in enterprise file serving," said Mike Stankey, president and CEO of PolyServe. "HP's entry into the enterprise file serving market will be enhanced by their leadership position in the Windows-based file serving space, and we expect HP's validation of PolyServe's technology to dramatically accelerate the adoption of our file serving technology among large enterprises worldwide."

PolyServe's software-centric file serving approach aggregates Intel- architecture and Linux-based servers and networked storage to form a scalable, fault-tolerant, and manageable file serving platform for both commercial data center and high-performance computing (HPC) applications. The solution integrates a symmetric cluster file system, storage virtualization software, Network File System (NFS) support, and high availability services into a single point of management for modularly scalable throughput and storage capacity management.

The HP EFS Clustered Gateway pairs the PolyServe File Serving Solution on Linux with HP ProLiant DL380 servers to form a high-performance, low-cost, and fault-tolerant alternative to traditional NAS appliances. The HP gateway product can be sold as a front end to existing HP storage and as an add-on to the newly announced models of the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Arrays -- the EVA4000, 6000 and 8000.

"The PolyServe File Serving Solution is a key enabling technology in our strategy to provide customers with scalable performance and high availability with the price benefits of industry-standard technology," said Harry Baeverstad, director of StorageWorks NAS Division at HP. "Our competitors' proprietary offerings will simply be unable to keep pace with HP on price, performance and availability for enterprise file serving."

The integrated solution will be offered worldwide through HP's direct sales force and channel partners. HP also plans to provide direct customer support of PolyServe's software.

A strange thing is happening along the way to the Internet of Things, namely far too many devices to work with and manage. It has become clear that we'll need much higher efficiency user experiences that can allow us to more easily and scalably work with the thousands of devices that will soon be in each of our lives. Enter the conversational interface revolution, combining bots we can literally talk with, gesture to, and even direct with our thoughts, with embedded artificial intelligence, whic...

For basic one-to-one voice or video calling solutions, WebRTC has proven to be a very powerful technology. Although WebRTC’s core functionality is to provide secure, real-time p2p media streaming, leveraging native platform features and server-side components brings up new communication capabilities for web and native mobile applications, allowing for advanced multi-user use cases such as video broadcasting, conferencing, and media recording.
WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of “data” has been limited to text chat and file download – all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, looked at differ...

The explosion of new web/cloud/IoT-based applications and the data they generate are transforming our world right before our eyes. In this rush to adopt these new technologies, organizations are often ignoring fundamental questions concerning who owns the data and failing to ask for permission to conduct invasive surveillance of their customers. Organizations that are not transparent about how their systems gather data telemetry without offering shared data ownership risk product rejection, regu...
More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be. We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smart...
