Microsoft's unreleased Azure cloud is not meant for private on-premises hosting, the company said.

It's strictly a Microsoft data centers-only thing supposedly because some of the new Azure widgetry Microsoft invents is bound to turn up in Windows Server - from which Azure derives anyway - as well as System Center.

However, according to Mary-Jo Foley, who published an e-mail exchange with Windows Server product management director Julius Sinkevicius, it looks like an application issue.

Applications developed for Azure will run on Window Server, but not all Windows Server apps will run on Azure and those that do need a lot of tweaking first.
