Jinfonet Software has announced the general release of
JReport 8.2 with more
than 60 enhancements. JReport 8.2 delivers these enhancements in three key areas:
performance improvements, greater developer flexibility and an enhanced user
experience.
Working in conjunction with the IBM Innovation
Center to develop
performance benchmarks, Jinfonet was able to demonstrate performance
improvements in on-demand reporting, batch reports, and viewing pre-generated
reports.
One key performance improvement in JReport 8.2 is the
reduction of the file size of report results, which leads to reduced I/O and
processing time. In addition, the JReport footprint (memory usage for reports)
has been reduced, resulting in better scalability. With improved overall
pipeline processing, report access and rendering are expedited.
With this release, users can run large reports in the
background, allowing for report status monitoring while other JReport tasks are
carried out. This allows for multi-tasking, increasing productivity while
running large reports. JReport 8.2 also introduces improved task queue
management from basic “first in, first out” (FIFO) to advanced priority-based
queuing, and the improved data buffer configuration and management, which
allows for fine-tuning of the system performance.
JReport 8.2 also improves performance through its report
bursting capability. With bursting functionality, a report can be run once and
distributed to multiple recipients in any output format, with view access
granted based on permissions.
The reporting experience is enriched by the export to
dynamic charts in Excel. By linking charts to cells in the Excel spreadsheet,
JReport gives users the ability to perform quick “what if” analysis, empowering
the user with faster, more-informed data analysis for critical decision making.
One goal of the release is to make it easier for developers
to use. Tool tips in JReport Designer now provide brief technical tips for the
rich set of report properties at the user’s fingertips. In addition, developers
will find the integration of JReport with their application servers easier in
JReport 8.2, allowing for HTTP access for both remote integration and
standalone JReport Enterprise Server.
